A baby gray whale spotted Wednesday morning in Mission Bay was back in the ocean near South Mission Beach by the afternoon, according to media reports.
The whale was spotted surfacing in the bay sometime before 10:30 a.m.
CBS8 reported that the whale swam out from the jetty that separates Mission Beach and Ocean Beach and was last seen swimming north near South Mission Beach.
San Diego lifeguards were not immediately available for comment, and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesperson Lee Swanson said he was awaiting an update from lifeguards.
