San Diego City Councilwoman Barbara Bry, a Democrat representing District 1, recently announced her intention to run for mayor of San Diego in 2020.

The La Jolla resident spent 30 years as an entrepreneur in the tech industry, and later founded Athena San Diego, an organization that aims to empower women in STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math.

She also helped found Run Women Run, an organization that supports pro-choice women to run for elected office.

Bry sat down with KPBS to discuss how she believes her background makes her the best candidate as San Diego's next mayor.
