Pakistan Rebuffs Plans to Team with U.S. Forces

As the Bush administration presses Pakistan's government to increase U.S. military presence in the country, anti-Americanism remains strong.

That has apparently led to a recent decision by President Pervez Musharraf to rebuff plans for joint operations with Pakistani security forces in the northwest Tribal Areas.

There's widespread belief in Pakistan that if U.S. forces are found to be operating within Pakistan, the backlash would be severe, focusing on charges that Musharraf is merely operating as a pawn of Washington, D.C.
