Former President Jimmy Carter defied warnings from U.S. and Israeli officials and met over the weekend with two leaders from the militant group Hamas. The two Palestinians are considered terrorists by the U.S. government, and Israel accuses them of masterminding attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians.
