Representatives of the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama met Monday in South China for a second day of talks to try to resolve their differences.
Foreign governments have been pressuring Beijing to open a dialogue with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader after several weeks of riots in Tibet and Tibetan areas of western China. The unrest promoted anti-Chinese demonstrations that followed the Olympic torch as it traveled through several foreign cities.
But NPR's Anthony Kuhn tells Steve Inskeep that both sides in the talks have accused each other of being insincere, and they face insurmountable differences.
