The fighting in the Kandahar province seems to get more intense by the day and it could very well be the place where the conflict in Afghanistan will be won or lost. Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops killed 10 Taliban insurgents in southern Kandahar on Tuesday, ISAF said in a statement. The operation included air support, it said.
Meanwhile, civilian casualties continue to mount in Kandahar. A district police commander and three officers were killed when a suicide bomber exploded near a police patrol in the early evening, the New York Times reports, and NATO said a civilian irrigating a field was killed during a gun battle between insurgents and Afghan and coalition forces in southern Kandahar Province on Tuesday.
