It's no secret that California's economy is in big trouble. We've got an almost $26 billion deficit. And as Governor Jerry Brown (did I really just type that?) tells us, the cuts are going to be painful. But veterans' advocates say the cuts vets groups are facing could actually be bad for business. A story on the website of the San Jose Mercury News tells us that the Guv's proposed budget cuts $10 million from county offices that provide all sorts of services to veterans:
Pete Conaty, the lobbyist for the California Association of Veterans Service Officers, tells the Mercury News that the state's department of Veterans Affairs have been in talks with the people in the governor's office. He's hopeful they can convince Brown's numbers crunchers that it's in the state's best interest to restore the county money for veterans to the budget.
