West Point cadets got an earful today from U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, as reported by the New York Times. Gates told the gathered crowd of prospective Army Second Lieutenants that in the future, wars like the ones we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan should never happen again. And Gates did not mince words:
Interesting side note: General MacArthur was a graduate of West Point.
As a result of the changing culture of the Army, Gates challenged the cadets to take the road less traveled as far as career paths go, and consider going to graduate school, learning foreign languages, and possibly teaching.
