The term "widow" might bring to mind an elderly woman with gray hair, one who shared a lifetime with the man she loved before losing him. But Oceanside resident Katie Wade became a widow at the tender age of 20. At a time when most young women are still making the transition from adolescence to adulthood, Katie had to bury her husband of less than two years. Chad Wade was killed in Afghanistan on December 1, 2010.
Katie is the focus of an article in today's Stars and Stripes. She started blogging when she married Chad, a Camp Pendleton Marine, as a way of celebrating their new life together. After he died, the blog became a brutally honest, unfiltered look at the grief of a young war widow. Here, Katie writes of seeing her husband's body after he was brought home from Afghanistan:
