Navy to Christen New Ship in San Diego

Looking for something unique to do this Saturday night? Why not head down to the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in San Diego to watch the christening and launching of the USS William McLean? The shipyard's main gate opens at 7:00 p.m. and the christening ceremony starts an hour later at 8:00 p.m.

The Department of Defense reports that Margaret Taylor will do the honors of christening the ship, smashing a bottle of Champagne against the bow. Taylor is the niece of William McLean, for whom the ship was named. And just who is this William McLean? According to the DoD:

The USS William McLean is what's known as a dry cargo/ammunition ship. Its main role for the Navy will be to deliver cargo like fuel, ship parts, and ammunition to other ships at sea.
