President Barack Obama visited Ground Zero today as a way to mark the death of the man who brought the towers down on September 11, 2001. The Los Angeles Times reports the president thanked New York City police and firefighters, and laid a wreath at Ground Zero to honor those who died on 9/11. He also hugged and spoke with family members who lost loved ones in the 9/11 terrorist attack.

There was some controversy over the visit, as George W. Bush declined an offer from President Obama to join him at the ceremony. A spokesman for Bush said the former president has chosen to avoid the spotlight post-presidency.
