The Navy has announced it will name its newest destroyer after posthumous Medal of Honor winner and Navy SEAL Michael Murphy. The christening ceremony will take place on Saturday in Maine - on what would have been Murphy's 35th birthday, according to the Associated Press. His mother, Maureen Murphy, will smash a bottle of Champagne against the warship to christen the USS Michael Murphy in her son's name.
Murphy was just 29-years-old when he lost his life in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings in June 2005. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Murphy was hit when his team came under Taliban fire:
