I guess saving 36 lives just isn't enough for Sgt. Dakota Meyer. The Medal of Honor recipient has expressed an interest in becoming a member of New York City's fire department. Meyer told the New York Post that he contacted the FDNY last week to see how to become part of the department:
As if he hasn't already given enough! Here's the twist, though: when Meyer got in touch with FDNY officials, he discovered he'd missed the deadline to apply and would have to wait another four years. That was OK with Meyer, but not with New York City officials. NYC spokeswoman Julianne Cho told the Post:
But Meyer didn't want any special treatment. He declined the offer of Brooklyn federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis to allow the city to extend the deadline specifically for him.
