President Barack Obama announced today all United States servicemembers will be pulled out of Iraq by January 1.
The Associated Press reports the announcement follows months of tense negotiations:
In 2008, President George W. Bush signed the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), which called for all U.S. forces to leave Iraq by December 31, 2011.
The Wall Street Journal reports the Iraq war has cost this country at least $800 billion dollars. As of October 18, according to the Associated Press, 4478 United States troops have been killed in Iraq since March 2003.
