In a sign the complete troop withdrawal is really happening, the Department of Defense announced today the military's post offices in Iraq will close to incoming mail on November 17. In addition, the post offices will stop processing mail on that date.
Next month, the U.S. State Department will take over postal service responsibilities for the military in Iraq, according to the DoD. Also:
After November 17, any military mail mistakenly sent to Iraq will make it as far as New Jersey before it is returned to the sender.
President Barack Obama announced Friday all United States servicemembers would be pulled out of Iraq by January 1.
