Should Sex Offenders Be Banned from the Military?

Felony sex offenders would be forbidden from joining in the United States military under a new measure by Senator Barbara Boxer.

The Marine Corps Times reports the bill is an effort to put some teeth into a 2009 Defense Department policy that bans the distribution of criminal history waivers for prospective service members who've been convicted of a felony sex crime.

The Marine Corps Times cites Army data as proof soldiers who've committed crimes in the past are more likely to commit them again if they join the service. According to the MC Times, soldiers who've received criminal waivers are more likely to break the law again in the Army:
