USNS Mercy Visits Vietnam
The USNS Mercy is returning home to San Diego tomorrow after five months at sea. The hospital ship with a crew of 1,200 participated in Pacific Partnership 2012, providing humanitarian aid to countries in Southeast Asia, according to the Department of Defense:
With the Military Sealift Command hospital ship as their lead platform during visits to Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, they conducted more than 900 surgeries, evaluated and treated more than 49,000 people and provided more than 7,000 veterinary services.
I've posted a video produced by the Pacific Partnership 2012, showing a visit by members of the crew to a school for disabled children in Vietnam. It gives a small taste of the enormous amount of work done by the Partnership to improve living conditions in different parts of the world.
