The Military Times Edge has named California State University San Marcos the top public university in California for veterans.
The website listed the top 57 four-year colleges for veterans to attend. CSU San Marcos came in at number 27.
In making up the list, the Military Times Edge used criteria like ease of using the GI Bill, having a relaxed residency requirement for vets coming from out-of-state, and accepting credits earned in military training.
Dr. Jan Jackson, vice president for Community Engagement at CSUSM, said in a news release:
“Collaborating with the military to respond quickly and relevantly to the unique needs of our strong military region is a smart thing to do from a business perspective, and it’s the right thing to from a community perspective."
While San Diego State University didn't make the Military Times Edge list, it was recognized by MilitaryFriendlySchools.com for being the first campus in the CSU system to open a veterans center.
According to the San Diego Military Advisory Council, San Diego County has the largest concentration of military personnel in the entire country, with more than 100,000 members of the Navy and Marine Corps living in the San Diego region.
