San Diego-Based USS Freedom Makes Port Visit To Guam (Video)

USS Freedom Visits Guam

The USS Freedom - homeport San Diego - is in the midst of a port visit to Guam, part of the littoral combat ship's eight-month deployment to the Asia-Pacific region.

Sailors from the Freedom visited with high school students in Tamuning, Guam on Monday to talk about life in the Navy.

Peter Linn, teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, told Joint Region Marianas Public Affairs he was thrilled to have the sailors come by:

"Even if they weren't planned, if I saw (Sailors) in the hallway, I'd grab them and bring them in here. I want (students) to see that there is life after high school. (The Sailors) are proud of what they do. They've given (students) the confidence to pursue something not many people can do."

And USS Freedom Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class Christopher Gamble said he was happy to have a chance to talk with JFK High students:

"It's a good time. It makes me feel special because I know I'm impacting the lives of some of these kids by showing them there is more out there."

During their Guam port call, Freedom sailors have also helped out at Saint Dominic's Senior Care Home, and have taken care of cats and dogs at Guam Animals In Need.
