Two Californians Among 3 Killed In Kyrgyzstan Plane Crash

Air Force Capt. Victoria A. Pinckney, 27, of Palmdale and Tech Sgt. Herman Mackey III, 30, of Bakersfield were killed along with Capt. Mark T. Voss, 27, of Colorado Springs, Colorado when their plane crashed in Kyrgyzstan on May 3, according to the Department of Defense.

All three airmen were assigned to the 93rd Air Refueling Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington state.

The Los Angeles Times reports Pinckney was a graduate of Palmdale High School and the U.S. Air Force Academy. She leaves behind her husband, Richard, and 7-month-old son Gabriel.


Mackey graduated from Bakersfield High School, according to the L.A. Times. He was married to wife Megan, and father to daughter Payton.

The Stars and Stripes reports Voss was also a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is survived by his parents, a brother, and sister.

As Home Post reported on Friday, the A U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker went down in a mountainous region of northern Kyrgyzstan.

The plane was reportedly on its way to Afghanistan. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
