U.S. Navy Captain John Nettleton lost his job as commanding officer of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay after NCIS discovered he was allegedly having an adulterous affair with a woman named Lara Tur.
According to The New York Daily News, the relationship between Nettleton and Lara Tur came to light when NCIS began investigating the death of Christopher Tur - Lara's husband.
U.S. officials have told The Associated Press:
Nettleton is under investigation in connection with the death of Christopher Tur, who was found dead on Jan. 11...
The body of 42-year-old Tur was discovered in the waters off Gitmo a day after his wife reported him missing.
The Turs had been married for 19 years. The couple and their two children moved to Guantanamo Bay in 2011.
The Navy Times gives a rundown of Nettleton's military career:
Nettleton is a prior-enlisted Marine infantryman who was commissioned as a helicopter pilot in 1989. He has deployed aboard the carriers Theodore Roosevelt and Saratoga, and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He took command of the controversial naval station in June 2012.
The Navy's news release blames Nettleton's sacking "due to loss of confidence in Nettleton's ability to command":

The Navy has temporarily reassigned Nettleton to Navy Region Southeast in Jacksonville, Florida.
