The House Foreign Affairs Committee questioned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice about the administration's unwillingness to hold direct talks with Iran.
She told the committee, "I think I would have noticed if the Iranians had said, 'We're ready to recognize Israel.' And Congressman, I just don't remember ever seeing any such thing."
But a 2003 fax from Iran, which sought direct talks, said negotiations could include the issues of Iran's financial support for Hamas and the potential for Iran to support a two-state solution in Israel.
