Arab leaders are gathering in Riyadh for a summit conference that may reaffirm a five-year-old offer of peace with Israel. The plan, drafted by Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah when he was crown prince, calls for Israel to withdraw from territory it took in the 1967 war.
The summit also coincides with a flurry of high-profile diplomacy, as Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice tries to breathe new life into Mideast peace efforts.
One byproduct of the nineteenth Arab Summit may be a reconciliation between King Abdullah and Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, whose regime is blamed by many for the murder of a Saudi ally in Lebanon two years ago: former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.
