A rash of burglaries in the Dallas area revealed criminals using a locksmithing technique known as "bump keys."
Upscale apartment residents would come home to find their doors closed but unlocked. Their laptops, cash and expensive jewelry were gone. Dozens of apartments were hit on the same day, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in property stolen, and no signs of forced entry.
Initially, detectives were scratching their heads. But one suburban detective — whose wife manages one of the complexes that was robbed — solved the mystery.
