San Diego city officials are worried that Kinder Morgan Energy isn't going to meet deadlines to cleanup the groundwater underneath Qualcomm Stadium.
In a letter to state water regulators, San Diego city officials say Kinder Morgan Energy has identified areas where the contamination removal hasn't progressed enough to meet a 2010 cleanup deadline. The city also says there's a large area near the front gate to the stadium where Kinder Morgan reports cleanup has not even begun. Kinder Morgan has repeatedly missed past deadlines and is being sued by the City of San Diego.
The city is anxious for the cleanup to be finished. Officials believe they can pump enough water from an aquifer underneath the stadium to supply up to 6,000 homes daily. City officials and regulators did not return calls for comment.
