Several roads, bridges and sidewalks in San Diego are getting makeovers thanks to federal stimulus money.
San Diego received $20 million for transportation improvement projects which covers everything from installing sidewalks to building a new pedestrian bridge.
Patti Boekamp, director of the city’s Engineering and Capital Projects department, said San Diego tried to follow the spirit of the Federal Stimulus by choosing “shovel ready” projects.
“We pulled things from lots of different lists where they were far enough along we could call them ready to go,” he said.
The city council has already allocated $14 million. Boekamp said about $6 million is being held back to use for road maintenance in case the state decides to take gas tax revenue from the city.
