Maps Of California's New Voting Districts Released

A panel of 14 citizens on Friday released its maps of new voting districts in California.

Some members of the U.S. House may no longer be residents of their own districts. Some may represent different constituents; and some veteran lawmakers may lose their jobs. That's all because of redistricting.

Political analysts are poring over the maps, trying to gauge impact.

What the changed districts will mean to the San Diego region's political landscape is that House members will be introducing themselves to a bunch of new people, said Ron Nehring, former chair of the California Republican Party.

"Really all five of the House incumbents in San Diego are going to have to run and represent people who may not know them," he said.

Republican Brian Bilbray and Democrat Susan Davis may find themselves in far more competitive races than either would prefer, said Nehring.

KPBS will follow this political sea change as it takes place in coming months.
