California Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and Republican Senator Ted Gaines both agree that this legislative session was one of the better ones.
Legislators approved changes to the state's pension and workers' compensation systems.
The workers' compensation bill is designed to help more injured workers while cutting employers' medical and legal costs.
Gaines said while he wishes the workers' compensation bill had been brought to the floor before the last day of session, he's still pleased it passed.
"That was wise in terms of analyzing where the expenses are within the system, and trying to solve the permanent disability issue," commented Gaines. "And so I think that was something that needed to happen."
Both Gaines and Steinberg said they'd like to see the legislature look at tax reform next session.
Steinberg also said legislators will likely take up changes to California's Environmental Quality Act.
