Easter Earthquake Good Preparation For Future

Easter Earthquake Good Preparation For Future
San Diego County Emergency officials say the Easter earthquake is great preparation for a future disaster.

San Diego County Emergency officials say the Easter earthquake is great preparation for a future disaster. Ron Lane is the director of the Office of Emergency Services. He says the long rolling earthquake got people's attention, but didn't do much damage. Lane says his agency was prepared to do more, if people needed to be contacted.

"If there were any imminent dangers, if there were concerns, if we were establishing shelters, or doing evacuations, or there were any risks, those are the decisions that would put us into a mode of increasing the amount of communication we have," he said.

Lane says his agency has a lot of tools available if they need to warn people about imminent danger. He says they began using social media and prepared their website. Lane says if the earthquake caused more serious problems they could have contacted the media, enacted a reverse 911 system, or used the emergency alert system on radio and television stations.
