Pacific Gas and Electric, PG&E, released a list of the 100 highest risk gas pipelines in California Monday. The California Public Utilities Commission requested the release of the 2009 list. That request came after a deadly gas line explosion in San Bruno earlier this month. PG&E president Chris Johns said the San Bruno pipeline was never on the list.
“This is because we don’t know yet what the cause was," Johns said. "So that will inform us as to how we need to look at these various pipeline segments and whether the process we’re using is a good process or not.”
Johns says PG&E compiles a list like this every year. It’s used internally to keep tabs on certain pipelines, in case they need extra attention or may be near a construction site.
He said until now, no one has asked to see the lists, which is why they were never revealed.
