Water Main Break Causes Large Sink Hole In Clairemont
A water main break in Clairemont caused a large sinkhole and sent water gushing through the middle of a residential street for more than an hour.
A break in a 12-inch water main sent water gushing on a Clairemont street early today, creating a large sinkhole. Shawnee Road at Baker Street was closed most of the day, police said.
The break was reported about 3:30 a.m., said San Diego police Officer Jane Jacobsen. The sinkhole that developed on Shawnee Road measured about 10-by-10 feet and was growing, she said.
Shortly after 5 a.m., city crews turned off the water and closed Shawnee Road to traffic in both directions. A city spokesman said that the water was restored by 2 p.m. and that the road reopened at 4 p.m.
