Smoke From Controlled Burn To Be Visible From Ramona

Brush pile burns scheduled to begin Monday morning in San Diego Country Estates near Ramona are expected to send smoke into the air that may be visible in surrounding areas.

Cal Fire crews will be burning brush behind homes in the southeast portion of the roughly 16-square mile community just east of Poway through Dec. 19, weather permitting, according to the state agency.

Fire crews will be helping to help construct a defense zone/fuel break barrier to stop the spread of wildfires should they reach the area near the base of Mt. Gower, according to Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser. The work is an extension of a fuel break that is already in place to the south and east of the Estates.

Bortisser said smoke would be visible to those within several miles of the project.
