About Liz Ajuzie & The Mood Swings Liz Ajuzie & The Moodswings are a 6-piece jazz band that formed in early 2024 from a collection of talented musicians inspired by the jazz greats like Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, and Sidney Bechet. Liz Ajuzie (vocals), Nico Lovell (vocals), Nightshade Navarro (sax), Dan Bailey (keys), Justice Guevara (bass), and Mike Masessa (drums) met in various bands and music events within the cultured San Diego music scene. Their brand of entertainment fuses charming vocals, soaring sax and piano solos, and a steady bass & drum groove to provide an exciting presence that will make you want to step into a time when people swayed on the dance floor and music flowed under the dazzling lights of the marquee. Liz Ajuzie is a Jazz and Blues singer that has been singing for her whole life. From the Prohibition through the Second Big War, the glory days of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington are being recaptured humbly and with humor in San Diego by four musicians who know it don’t mean a thing without that swing: Beston Barnett - Guitar, Vocals Pete Miesner - Guitar, Lead Vocals Matt Gill - Clarinet Paul Hormick - Upright Bass The Zzymzzy Quartet takes its name from a hypothetical “last word” in the dictionary: thus, their tagline, “The Last Word in Gypsy Swing.” The “Gypsy” sound is heard in much of the guitar work, heavily influenced by the stylings of French Gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, but the group also pays tribute to the Swing Era with classic standards and idiomatic originals. Since the Zzymzzy Quartet came together in 2004, they’ve played dances, parties, weddings, festivals, art openings, and events throughout Southern California to unanimous enthusiasm, carving out a name for themselves as a tasty dance band and a classy addition to every wedding. We are celebrating the characteristics of of self-expression, identity, activism, joy and belonging, with an art exhibition on July 26, featuring work made by local creatives, and Artists in Residence, who who have interpreted the themes with works of all mediums. Drag Performer Miss Kerioki will be attending from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. for a live figure drawing opportunity, and photo session. The 37th annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony will be held Friday night, July 25 in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront, just a short walk south from the Convention Center. The doors of the ballroom will open at 7:45, and the ceremony will get underway at 8 p.m. Attendance at the event is free to all Comic-Con members. Be sure to bring your convention badge to be admitted—and your I.D. if you wish to purchase alcoholic beverages. Advance seating for VIPs (nominees, sponsors, presenters) will begin at 7 p.m. No-host bars will be set up both in the ballroom and the ballroom lobby. The ceremony is expected to run until about 10:30 p.m.. It will be followed by a VIP reception in the Indigo Ballroom foyer, with a live jazz duo for entertainment.
