Gina Diamante came to KPBS in 2011 to launch KPBS Evening Edition. She has managed the newsroom’s participation in collaborative efforts with other public media outlets, including the Local Journalism Center Video Project and the Global Nation Education Project. In 2015, Gina was awarded an Emmy by the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for producing the KPBS news special “Remembering The Fall Of Saigon.” Her work has also been recognized by the San Diego Press Club, the San Diego League of Women Voters, San Diego Radio Broadcasters Association, and the Associated Press Radio-Television Association. Prior to joining KPBS, Gina served as news director and Morning Edition host at KVCR-FM, the NPR member station in San Bernardino. Gina has also been a writer, reporter, anchor, producer and news director at stations in Monterey, San Diego, Ventura County, Los Angeles, and Temecula. She is a graduate of the School of Journalism at San Jose State University.

Choose from two upcoming dates: March 30, 2-4:30 p.m. -or- May 25, 2-4:30 p.m. Join Suzanne Balestri to learn the basics of Fused Glass and create your own glass jewelry to keep for yourself or give as a gift. This fun workshop offers a perfect introduction to Kiln-Formed (fused) glass for beginners, and allows those who have worked with glass before to hone their abilities and finesse their skills. You will learn how fused glass differs from other forms of art glass, how to use the various tools involved in creating glass art, and how to cut and grind the glass you will be using in your wearable art project. Using a colorful array of glass and pre-fired adornments, you’ll construct abstract or representational designs to be fashioned into earrings, pendants, rings, cuff links, even belt buckles! Each student will have plenty of space in the kiln for several items! Your pieces will be fired in a glass kiln to completely fuse each design into one solid piece, and will be ready for you to pick up the following week. Workshop fee includes pre-workshop instructional videos, all glass, equipment, and kiln firing of several pieces. This workshop is recommended for All Skill Levels – Ages 13 and up. Each year, The House of Lebanon hosts their annual Lawn Program. The Entertainment is provided by different folk dance groups every year that will perform Folk Dances in regional native costumes. In addition to folkloric dance, local Lebanese artist will perform tradition song, music and poetry depicting the Lebanese heritage and Culture. The House of Lebanon serves a wide selection of traditional Lebanese “Meza”. Food will include Hummus, Tabouli, Spinach Pies, Kibbeh, Falafel, stuffed Grape Leaves, Moussakaa, Kafta, Chicken and Lamb Shawarma. San Diego’s arts community is rallying to support their Los Angeles counterparts who lost studios, homes, and livelihoods in the devastating Pacific Palisades and Altadena wildfires. This spring, Union Hall Gallery will host a two-weekend Fine Art and Craft Sale on Friday, April 4 – Sunday, April 6 and Friday, April 11 – Sunday, April 13, featuring over 400 donated pieces spanning painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and more, to raise funds for the LA art community. One hundred percent of proceeds from the sale will directly benefit the Grief and Hope: LA Art World Fire Relief Fund, providing funds to artists and art workers following the January 2025 fires. Featured in the sale are renowned artists like Italo Scanga, Paula Wittner, James Hubbell, Larry Groff, Margaret Larlham, Jane Culp, and Joe Garcia, alongside emerging voices, university students, tattoo artists, and fiber artists. Inside the 2,500-square-foot space, the sale will feel like an immersive gallery experience, with pieces rotated as they sell—encouraging visitors to return throughout the event. A house is more than a container for the things we spend a lifetime collecting, storing, arranging, and insuring. It is the repository of our memories, the life we spend there. We will make an accordion book with text and images of your home and/or family members or ancestors that reflect your perceptions, memories, family relations, and personal history. The structure of the pages will reflect the book’s subject, with openings that represent doors, windows, and the movement from room to room inside a house. Materials: Cutting knife, stylus (for scoring), sharp pencils, a good eraser (Pink Pearl is good), glue (UHU glue stick or PVA & brush or small roller), 12” ruler, scissors. In addition, you will want to bring room layout drawings, photographs, and/or black-and-white-on-paper printouts of your home or other drawings of the interior or exterior (sizes to be emailed once you have registered). Optional/recommended: 12” centering ruler, bench hook with cutting mat (9” x 12” cutting mat size is ideal), bone folder. Materials for the pages and cover will be provided to create the books. About the Artist: Kerianne Quick is a nationally recognized craftsperson, Associate Professor of Jewelry and Metalwork at SDSU, and co-founder of Secret Identity Projects and Craft Desert. Highlights from their exhibition record include Craft in America Gallery, the Museum of Art and Design (NYC), Museo Franz Mayer (CDMX), the National Museum for Women in the Arts (D.C.), and Salon del Mobile (Milan).
