Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Dr. Michael D. Munson is the organist of the First United Methodist Church of Escondido, a Life Member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and current Dean of the Palomar Chapter of the AGO. He has concertized in Southern California, the eastern United States, and Europe. He has also given four concerts at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park as part of the weekly Sunday Concert Series there.** **Munson earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music from the Eastman School of Music in 1992. Since 1994, Dr. Munson has been working at Palomar College when he started accompanying ballet classes, which he still does. Currently, he teaches class and applied piano, plays for ballet, and accompanies the choirs and voice class. He has taught beginning piano, music theory, and organ. Upcycle Your Own Item! Learn to Carve & Block Print! Choose from upcoming dates: Thursday, March 6, 6-8 p.m. -or- Thursday, May 1, 6-8 p.m. Have you ever wanted to print your own designs on shirts and bags?! In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of relief printing! Students will learn to design and carve their own linoleum stamp and block print an image onto fabric. We invite you to upcycle fabric from your own wardrobe or home for this class, so grab a well-loved favorite item or something that could use a fun refresh and begin imagining some fun designs you might carve and print! Because this class focuses on upcycling, please bring your own fabric to block print on. This can be clothing, a tote bag or something else. You may bring more than one item and the instructor can help you choose which to print on in class. We recommend you avoid fabrics that are especially thin, like satins and silks. All other tools and materials needed for this class will be supplied for use. Sunday, June 15, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Come and explore the gorgeous natural blue of indigo in this Fiber Fest Sunday workshop. Students will learn a range of shibori dye resist processes in this hands-on, creative workshop, including tegumo (spiderweb), ori nui (stitched), and itajime (clamped) shibori methods. We will be using a natural indigo vat to dye a bamboo scarf and better understand the process and symbiotic relationship with indigo dye and this traditional textile surface design. Students will acquire the basic techniques to continue their journey into creating beautiful, unique textiles. This class is appropriate for ages 14+ years old. No prior experience necessary. All ages welcome! All materials included. This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s 2nd annual Fiber Fest! Fiber Fest Drop Spindles! Sunday, June 15 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. We are excited to offer this fun woodworking workshop on Sunday for Fiber Fest! Join us for a morning of fiber & woodworking friendship and camaraderie. This workshop is geared for fiber enthusiasts, menders, and beginners interested in making their own drop spindles for spinning yarn. This is a special offering in conjunction with Fiber Fest, a 3-day celebration of wool as a sustainable material. This 3-hour woodworking workshop will acquaint students with a woodturning lathe, its parts, the tools needed, safety tips, tool sharpening techniques and how to shape wood on a lathe. The class will consist of students learning to round a piece of square stock, learning the four basic cuts and turning a drop spindle as their take home project. Ages 16 years and older.
