Learn to throw ceramics on a wheel! Wednesdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m. April 2, 9, 16, 23, May 7 Learn the fascinating and ancient art form of ceramics with Meg, a full time potter, in this 5-week, weekday evening wheel series. Whether you’re a beginner or intending to deepen your relationship, all are welcome to experience the world of clay in this fun and friendly environment. By focusing on techniques to confidently create functional and aesthetic pottery, we will learn creative design, how to throw on the wheel, trimming and glazing! Projects will be ready to pick up 1-2 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome. Monday – Friday, April 14 – 18, from 1p.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 7-12 welcome! Taught by a variety of skilled educators and professional artists, your child will explore seasonal crafts through a variety of mediums such as woodworking, ceramics and fiber arts! Along the way, we’ll make fun, high-quality crafts kids can take home. Our projects are geared to build and hone skills such as hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, comprehension + exploration of a variety of materials. Projects and depth of craft exploration are matched up to the child’s age and ability. It’s important that your child bring water in a refillable bottle and a snack (no candy or peanut products please) in case they are hungry or thirsty during this time. In addition, if your child is enrolled in a nearby camp elsewhere in Liberty Station, and they’re camp is ending as ours begins, we are happy to walk your child from their camp to the studio. Fiber Fest Upcycling & Mending Fun! Sunday, June 15, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. We are excited to offer this fun Sunday workshop for Fiber Fest! Join us for a morning of creative mending in good company. Come learn simple hand sewing techniques in order to turn your damaged clothing items into a one-of-a-kind garments. In this 2-hour class with upcycling sewist Keira McGee, you will practice hand sewing stitches and have the opportunity to repair a piece of your own clothing. Please be prepared with an item or two from your closet that are in need of some mending. We suggest items such as jeans and button down shirts, but feel free to bring several options. All other materials will be provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for ages 14 years and older. All materials included. This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s 2nd annual Fiber Fest! Join in the main day of festivities on Saturday, June 14th, for a day filled with fiber fun! Join us for a Sunday afternoon of fiber friendship and camaraderie. In this introductory class led by instructors from the San Diego County Spinners, you’ll learn the fundamentals of spinning yarn using a drop spindle. We’ll start by teaching you how to draft and spin singles, and then move on to plying two singles together to create a beautiful, balanced yarn. Plus, we’ll share tips on where to find spinning supplies and resources to keep you going after class. Whether you’re completely new to spinning or just looking to refresh your skills, this hands-on class will give you a solid foundation in drop spindle spinning!
