People who are mourning the loss of a loved one can find it challenging to process their emotions. Watching a movie that deals with themes of grief and loss can help them release some of the sadness and hurt. And discussing the movie with others can be a safe way to share their feelings. MOVIE TALK, A Support Group for Grieving Adults, is open to anyone in the community (ages 21+) looking to connect and receive support from others who also face adversity after the death of a loved one. This forum will assist participants in processing the pain of their grief, adjusting to a world without their person, and finding ways to form an enduring connection with their loved ones as they move forward with their lives. Groups will be held on Thursdays, biweekly, from June 30 through August 25, at 12 P.M. to 1 P.M., via Zoom. Drop-ins are welcomed. There is no cost to attend. Registration is required; email Darlene.Morris@ehospice.org or call 833-349-2054. Participants are expected to watch the movie on their own prior to the session. The selected movies are available on streaming platforms. The Rabbit Hole (2010) June 30 Coco (2017) July 14 My Girl (1991) July 28 Up (2009) August 11 Steel Magnolias (1989) August 25 “Support group participants will reduce their feelings of isolation that can accompany grief through the discussion of salient points from each movie and by sharing their thoughts and feelings surrounding the movie with others who are also struggling with grief,” said Kathlyne Barnum, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Counseling Program Supervisor with The Elizabeth Hospice. The Elizabeth Hospice’s grief support services are available to everyone in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County, including families who do not have a patient affiliation with the organization. Counseling services are available for individuals, couples, families and children. For more information about grief counseling and support groups, visit www.elizabethhospice.org or call 833-349-2054.
