Marine Corps veteran Cpl. Kyle Carpenter, who was awarded the Medal of Honor last week, is in town. Among his stops - throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at Sunday's San Diego Padres game, and meeting with fellow Marines at Camp Pendleton and MCAS Miramar.

The Defense Department has identified the three U.S. Marines killed on June 20 (along with a military working dog) by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan. They were: Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart, 34; Lance Cpl. Brandon J. Garabrant, 19; and Lance Cpl. Adam F. Wolff, 25. All three were based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Active-duty soldier Pfc. Paul Ieti, 21, recently completed a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. While in the war-ravaged country, he used music to soothe his soul and entertain his fellow soldiers. His incredible singing voice landed him an audition on "America's Got Talent," and his performance on the show this week earned him a standing ovation and a spot in the final competition.

President Barack Obama will award retired Marine Corps Cpl. William "Kyle" Carpenter the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony today, for Carpenter's heroic actions during a Nov. 21, 2010 battle in Afghanistan. Home Post will carry a live feed of the event.
