Jamie has been the San Diego correspondent for Newsweek magazine for nearly two decades, for which he has written or co-written cover stories on such subjects as the Enron collapse, Napster, the war on terrorism, media conglomeration, the Heaven's Gate religious cult, teen culture, and new cancer treatments. He has also written for such publications as the New York Times, Rolling Stone, People, USA Today and the Los Angeles Times. Jamie has won more than 20 Society of Professional Journalist and Press Club awards, including the Press Club's Best of Show award in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
