Opportunity, Weather Drive Local Small Businesses
Friday, March 2, 2007
An annual survey reveals San Diego business owners don't have complicated reasons for doing business here. The survey also finds a lot of optimism among local entrepreneurs. KPBS Radio's Andrew Phelps has the details.
The Union Bank of California interviews local business owners face to face. Regional President Joe Benoit says the number one reason for doing business here is opportunity for growth. Exactly what that means is a matter of interpretation. The next two reasons for doing business here are not.
Benoit: Showing the provincial nature of San Diego and San Diego County in this region, the next two were the weather, which is no surprise to any of us. Um, and family ties.
That's right, our weather is not just pleasant. It's a major economic driver in San Diego County.
Benoit says two-thirds of local business owners expect higher profits this year than last year. And 32 percent plan to do more hiring. For KPBS, I'm Andrew Phelps.
