California is getting a bad rep for being too class-action friendly. Businesses have taken to calling California the “sue-you” state and business leaders are pressing lawmakers for tougher limits on class-action lawsuits. The campaign comes as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce chides California for having one of the least business-friendly legal systems among the 50 states.

One lawyer says there have been more than 300 class action lawsuit complaints here in San Diego in the last six months. And it's the small business owners who are being hit the hardest. Many times small businesses cannot fight the lawsuits and are forced to close their doors -- or pass on costs to the consumer.
