Local Marine Drill Instructors Accused of Abusing Recruits
Tuesday, September 18, 2007
Even if you've never been a Marine, you have an idea of how Marine drill instructors behave, and what they do. We've seen them in movies screaming at recruits, calling them names, humiliating them and forcing them to do pushups. Apparently, that's not too far from the truth. But the Marine Corps can get to the point where even they believe that drill instructors go too far, and their behavior becomes abusive.
That's basically the accusation against four drill instructors at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. One of them has already been found guilty of the charge of disobeying an order. The trials of the other drill instructors are still to come.
Sgt. Brian Wendel is scheduled for trial on Dec. 10, 2007.
