Alan Ray: Is there a point at which art and conservation intersect? Can one inspire, direct, or change the other? A new exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego pursues answers through the works of eight leading contemporary artists. They've all completed residences at threatened World Heritage sites as part of the exhibition Human/Nature , which opens on Sunday, August 17th.

Stephanie Hanor is the senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

Ann Hamilton is an artist whose work includes installations, photographs, videos, performances, and sculptural objects. For Human/Nature, she went to the Galapagos Islands.

Mark Dion is a artist known for making art out of fieldwork and working with scientists. His work in Human/Nature is based on his time in Komodo National Park in Indonesia.

Dario Robleto is a sculptor. His Human/Nature research involved a residency at Waterton Glacier International Peace Park.
