San Diego City Council Overrides Mayoral Veto

San Diego city council met in special session this morning and voted unanimously to override Mayor Jerry Sanders’ veto of the mid year budget adjustments.

San Diego city council met in special session this morning and voted unanimously to override Mayor Jerry Sanders’ veto of the budget.

Sanders objected when the council reinstated 6 community- based Service Centers that had been axed in an earlier vote.

This means the 6 community service centers will remain open till the end of January.

Councilwoman Donna Frye, who championed the Service Centers, has reached an agreement with the mayor’s office to allow  a transition period for the Centers to close down gradually  rather than  immediately. Some of their functions may be transferred to local libraries.

The final vote on this round of budget cuts won’t happen till the new council is seated next Tuesday
