Get-Out-The-Vote campaigners at UC San Diego are encouraging hundreds of students to take time between their classes to head to the polls. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has the story.

Organizers from Cal PIRG launched a statewide project several months ago to inform college students about the candidates and their stands on issues. This is the culmination of all their hard work. Cal Prig's Erin Steva passed out wristbands and stickers to UC San Diego students near a campus polling station. She says their mission is to get 1,000 students to actually head to the polls.

Steva: We're having people fill out these, 'Yes I Pledge to Vote.' And the reason why we do this because if someone is reminded to vote person-to-person, either by phone, or this kind of contact, if they are reminded three times, there is an 86 percent chance that they will actually go out to vote.

Steva believes organizers here will surpass their one-thousand voter goal by the end of the day.
