San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders is promising to fix the city's infrastructure as he begins his second term.

Standing in front of a city work crew pouring asphalt today, Sanders pledged to start borrowing money to fill potholes and repair water mains that have been left to deteriorate as the city struggled with a 1.4 billion dollar pension deficit.

Sanders had nearly 54 percent of the vote in Tuesday's election, enough to avoid a runoff in November. Sanders raised just $426,000 in the race, getting outspent 10-to-1 by businessman Steve Francis.

A big decision awaits some voters this July as the race for San Diego County’s Supervisor District 1 seat heats up. Are you ready to vote? Check out the KPBS Voter Hub to learn about the candidates, the key issues the board is facing and how you can make your voice heard.
