San Diego city council President, Scott Peters, will join the Port Commission when his term on the city council ends in December.

San Diego city council President, Scott Peters, will join the Port Commission when his term on the city council ends in December.

Some members of the city council objected to Peters orchestrating a vote from his colleagues before leaving office.

But Peters got the five votes he needed.

PETERS : Also I want you to know that I would seek this appointment only with the condition that I not receive any remuneration. I am doing this because I love the region and I ask for your support.

Peters, who has represented the first district including La Jolla for the past eight years, will become one of four city representatives on the Port Commission.

Commissioner Lori Black was reappointed for a second term.
