Mayor’s Wife Rana Sampson Discusses the Value of SD Center for Children for Community
Thursday, March 19, 2009
Maureen Cavanaugh: It's not something most families like to talk about, but the mental health problems of a child can be devastating. Emotional and behavioral issues can get children tossed out of school, delay their social development, leave parents feeling helpless and tear families apart.
The San Diego Center for Children has been working with troubled kids for more than 120 years; it's the oldest accredited non-profit organization in San Diego. As the group gets ready to launch its Walk for Kids benefit this weekend, we wanted to check in on the programs and therapies they offer to troubled kids in San Diego. We also want to explore the sensitive subject of when it may be time to seek professional help for a child's behavioral problems.
Rana Sampson and Mayor Jerry Sanders will lead the Walk for Kids to benefit the San Diego Center for Children this Saturday, March 21st, at De Anza Cove on Mission Bay. Check-in starts at 7:30am, with the walk taking place at 9am.
