SD Health Officials Launch Investigation Into Carlsbad Cancer Concerns
Thursday, June 10, 2010
San Diego County health officials have launched a task force to investigate parents' concerns that the air, water and soil at a Carlsbad elementary school may be causing cancer in students.
County Health and Human Services Agency public health officer Wilma Wooten says community members and public health staffers will collect input on cancer cases and report it to state epidemiologists to investigate parents' concerns.
Studies in 2007 and 2008 found nothing unusual about the incidences or types of cancer in the area, but community members want more up-to-date information.
The parents of students at Kelly Elementary School are led by John Quartarone, whose 16-year-old son Chase died in December of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
