Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, has a budget of $5.7 billion, the highest in its history. Almost half of that, $2.55 billion, is spent on deportations alone.
In the last twelve months, ICE deported close to 390,000 people, or less than 4% of the undocumented population.
Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, has repeatedly vowed to continue to fight illegal immigration and border security.
"As a result of all of these efforts we now have a border more secure than ever before," she said during a recent visit to the San Diego-Tijuana border. "And these efforts are only going to continue in the weeks, months and years ahead."
An ICE official, speaking off the record to an L.A. Times reporter, recently said that deporting all illegal immigrants would cost upwards of $80 billion.
